At Palmetto Electric, we understand the importance of the farming industry and its impact on the rural communities we serve.
Did you know that under the South Carolina Agricultural Tax Exemption (SCATE) program, the South Carolina Department of Agriculture is now issuing SCATE cards to individuals eligible to receive agriculture sales tax exemptions? In February 2022, retailers began accepting the SCATE card as proof of exemption, in addition to the existing Agricultural Exemption Certificate. However, beginning July 1, retailers will no longer accept the South Carolina Department of Revenue’s Agricultural Exemption Certificate, but will instead require a SCATE card.
What does this mean for local farmers who are members of Palmetto Electric Cooperative? To retain tax-exempt status with Palmetto Electric Cooperative, eligible individuals must apply for a SCATE card at SCATEcard.com and provide a copy of the SCATE card to the cooperative.
