There was much to cheer about during the 2021 Touchstone Energy Cooperatives Bowl as Jaylen Sneed, son of Palmetto Electric employee Chanta Ellison, was named South Carolina’s Mr. Football. The award is the highest individual football honor for high school seniors in the state. Sneed was one of six student-athletes representing Palmetto Electric in the Touchstone Energy Cooperatives Bowl.
Representing Palmetto Electric at the 2021 Touchstone Energy Cooperatives Bowl were:
-
Jaeon Allen, May River High School
-
Xavier Chaplin, Whale Branch Early College High School
-
Garvin Douglas, May River High School
-
Jamian Risher, Wade Hampton High School
-
Jaylen Sneed, Hilton Head Island High School
-
Alvin Wilson, Beaufort High School
Making Sneed’s win even more special is his mother Chanta Ellison’s co-op connection. Ellison has worked as a customer service representative for Palmetto Electric for three years. “I am just super excited,” she says. “This is a huge honor and accomplishment for him and makes all the years of football and travel worth it.”
Sneed, a senior linebacker at Hilton Head Island High School, is committed to play college football at Notre Dame. South Carolina’s top football players from the North and South faced off one final time this season on Saturday, Dec. 11 at Doug Shaw Memorial Stadium in Myrtle Beach for the Touchstone Energy Cooperatives Bowl. In addition to playing one final game together, the six players representing Palmetto Electric had the opportunity to bring some Christmas joy to children in the Horry County School District by helping them shop for much-needed items on their Christmas wish list.
At the end of the week, the South team was victorious, while the players walked away with the experience of a lifetime.
