UNKNOWN NUCLEAR ENERGY, by Hunter Nguyen, was selected as Palmetto Electric’s local winner of the 2020/2021 Children’s Book Challenge, sponsored by EnlightenSC, an educational initiative of South Carolina’s electric cooperatives. The competition challenges fourth and fifth grade students to write and illustrate stories that focus on sustainability and the impact of electricity.
Nguyen, a fourth grader at Hilton Head Island Elementary School for the Creative Arts, was presented a certificate and a $50 gift card by Missy Santorum, public relations manager for Palmetto Electric Cooperative, on Friday, March 26. Nguyen was joined by his teacher, Jennifer Friend-Kerr, to celebrate his achievement. “We at Palmetto Electric applaud all of our entries in this year’s Children’s Book Challenge. We are especially proud of Hunter, our local winner. His book gave a creative connection of content to energy and included illustrations that helped showcase his unique story,” says Santorum.
Nguyen’s book was entered into a statewide competition for a chance to win $500 and have his book published and distributed to elementary schools throughout the state.
